Dispensation for Juan Santiago Aydel and Clara Beknel.

--------
1802 Apr. 6

Haydel, J(ean) J(acques)
St. John Baptist, Second German Coast, (Louisiana)

to (Father Thomas Hassett
New Orleans, Louisiana)

Haydel wishes to marry Clara. He asks (Hassett) to receive the testimony of his witnesses. He is the son of Juan Santiago Haydel and Magdalena Bosonier. Clara is the daughter of Pedro Beknel and Magdalena Haydel, daughter of Christoval Haydel and Carlota Ouvre. Haydel's father and Clara's grandfather are sons of Ambrosio Haydel and Margarita Chaufe. His fiancee is poor and her father is dead. Haydel's family is very extensive and nearly all in the parish are related. His father has done various services for and given alms to the Church in this parish. Haydel asks for a dispensation and requests Father Patricio Mangan of Cabahonece, since Haydel's parish is vacant, to make the arrangements. Because of the smallpox in the city, Haydel asks to be excused from appearing in person.
