Hamilleton (Hamilton) Therese
to Estevan Miro, (gov. of Louisiana) She says that she is the daughter of Joseph Hamilleton and Anastasia Comte. She married in the rites of the Catholic Church Thomas Rille (Reilly) in the parish of La Fourche, (Lafourche), (Louisiana). Rille took her to Appelousas (Opelousas) where he shortly began to mistreat her terribly. She gives examples of his terrible cruelty. Finally she earnestly beseeches Miro to grant her a separation from Rille and she asks for custody of her daughter if the law does not grant her her sons (also). Signed with the mark of Therese Hamilleton. A note in Spanish signed by Miro orders this document to be passed on to the Rev. Father Vicar (Antonio de Sedella) to consider the granting of the divorce. IV-4-c A.D.S. 9pp. 8vo. (French) 6
