Estevan de Quinones certifies this as a notary public.

He has learned through Father Joachin de Portillo that Fathers Tirso de Pelea Gonzalo, O.M.Cap. and Jose de Villaprovedo, chaplains of the regiment stationed in Louisiana are unable to instruct their subjects in consequence of their not knowing French. Therefore he has subject to Carondelet's approval, decided to substitute Father De Deva for Father Villaprovedo. Father de Deva is to care for the French and father Pelea Gonzalo for the Spanish. (This is a copy) certified by Estevan de Quinones.

He orders that Quinones inform Father Villaprovedo that Carondelet has authorized his transfer from the chaplaincy of the second battalion to the position of assistant in the church (of St. Louis) and the appointment of Father De Deva in his place. He also orders Quinones to inform Father Joachin de Portillo, padtor of the said church concerning this change. (Then follow notes saying that Quinones informed Fathers Villaprovedo, De Deva and de Portillo, as instructed by Father Henriquez.
