Maria Leblan, a native of Nantes, is the daughter of Targile Hebert and Juan Leblanc, son of Simon Leblanc and Margarita Bourque. His fiancee's parents are very poor, he has enough to help take care of them.

Almost all the inhabitants come from Acadia and are related. The father of the girl is an old man wanting help.
