Hassett, Father Thomas Having confidence in the prudence and the virtue of Father John Nepomucene Gomez of St. Augustine, East Florida, Hassett grants Gomez the faculties to hear confessions. (The manuscript is torn and difficult to read in part but it seems to read that certain conditions are laid down and the rules of Benedict XIV are cited). Nar(ci)so Broutin acts as secretary.

Hassett, Father Thomas Having been informed by Father Michael (O'Reilly) Orelly, pastor and vicar of St. Augustine of East Florida that Father Juan Nepomucene gomez is sufficiently instructed, Hassett gives him permission throughout the diocese to preach in conformance with the rules of Benedict XIII of August 24, 1748 and those of Clement XIII which state that one point of doctrine or commandments be explained in every sermon. All sermons are to end with an act of contrition. Nar(ci)so Broutin, royal ecclesiastical notary of this curia, witnesses this and signs with Hassett.
