Brother Aidan's Extracts

LUCIAN, BROTHER (Arthur Dearing)

"Brother Lucian succumbed to a stroke of apoplexy at Sacred Heart College, Watertown, August 27. To hundreds of Fort Wayne friends, especially among the students of Cathedral Boy's School, and to many of the older men of the parish, the announcement was received with profound regret . . . .

"Known in the world as

Arthur Dearing, Brother Lucian was born in Barnum, Pennsylvania, December 20, 1844 and received the habit August 15, 1867. Professed August 15, 1879. He was a convert to the Faith and throughout his career was faithful, zealous and highly esteemed by all who knew him . . . . Last year Brother Lucian was at St. Joseph's College, Cincinnati where he taught at different times.

"The deceased was a relative of Mr. Benjamin Shively, Senator, South Bend. A man of noble ideas and purposes, fine accomplishments and marked capabilities has passed away in Brother Lucian."

-- Catholic Columbianby Helen May Irwin (1909)
