the church is built and the pews rented, the Catholics of St.
John's will be in a condition to support priest and schools
without difficulty. Most of the people are in easy circumstances
and before long they will be rich farmers. In a few years the
care of this mission and of another little congregation, also
German, seven miles farther, called Turkey Creek, will require two
priests who will there find constantly increasing occupation, and
will form one of the best secondary establishments of the Society.
The railroads at present bring us to within five miles of St.
John's church.
