Next day, the 14th, the Bishop answered by letter as follows:
Very Rev. dear Sir.
In answer to your note in which you inform me of your final
resolution, I now write to let you know mine. It is simply this:
that you vacate the college and the premises by the 1st of next
August, and that the community, men and women, leave the city by
that day. I will take the property such as it is, with its
improvements whatever that may be, and will be satisfied not to
demand the payment of arrears for the two past years. You will
have the kindness to take notice of the terms and of the day
mentioned, for I have already taken my measures for that day. To
prevent all useless discussion for the future, I will simply add
