Burns send Cavanaugh a check for 16 masses. He informs Cavanaugh that it is not possible to transfer Fr. McGinn to Camp Sheridan, where Fr. Walsh is stationed. Since there are already to many war chaplains. Burns doesn't think that is worth to pursue the matter any longer. Bishop McDevitt asks Cavanaugh to give a sermon in Harrisburgh and Burns would meet him there if he would go. Burns also writes about Hugh O'Donnell, etc.

Burns can't do anything for Cavanaugh at the State Department, since a lot of people have the flu. Next to that they couldn't find the applications for passports in Washington. Burns asks therefore if the applications are still in Chicago. Regarding the flu Burns writes that he won't let anybody from the College go to Washington and that celebration for Cardinal has been canceled for the same reason.
