Burns and Zahm spoke with General edwards, Secretary Wright, Genral Bell and General Ainsworth. They have a Captain Cusick in mind for that instructor position at Notre Dame. Burns also writes about the situation at Holy Cross College.

He ist disappointed of Democats which the Catholic Church supported for years.

  Burns is writing again to Cavanaugh regarding the trip of Cardinal Gibbons to Notre Dame. The whole matter ended up in court. Burns is also asking for "Scholastics" and the numbers of students who registered at Notre Dame.

  Burns send Cavanaugh a check for 16 masses. He informs Cavanaugh that it is not possible to transfer Fr. McGinn to Camp Sheridan, where Fr. Walsh is stationed. Since there are already to many war chaplains. Burns doesn't think that is worth to pursue the matter any longer. Bishop McDevitt asks Cavanaugh to give a sermon in Harrisburgh and Burns would meet him there if he would go. Burns also writes about Hugh O'Donnell, etc.

  Burns can't do anything for Cavanaugh at the State Department, since a lot of people have the flu. Next to that they couldn't find the applications for passports in Washington. Burns asks therefore if the applications are still in Chicago. Regarding the flu Burns writes that he won't let anybody from the College go to Washington and that celebration for Cardinal has been canceled for the same reason.

  Cavanaugh is writing to Burns regarding a matter that has to do with a judge Clennon and some corporations. He also writes about Fr. Zahm, about the "Scholastics" he has sent and the amount of Notre Dame students.
