A 15-page typed essay by Gordon Zahn, when he was a professor at Univ. of Massachusetts-Boston, that was later published in WORLDVIEW. ~ "The issue involves the compatability of a thorough-going commitment to pacifist ideals and objectives with sympathy and support for national liberations movements. . . All that is offered here is one pacifist's reflection, not a definitive solution." Gordon Zahn sees that the dilemma takes its sharpest form in three crucial contexts. First, is the question of acceptable means, specifically the use of endorsement of violence. Second, is the process of "conscientization" and its appropriate techniques and objectives. Last, is the introduction and acceptance of nationalism as a motivation force and justification.
