Peace Efforts Revived

By the middle of the month, the Conference on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures and Disarmament in Europe convened in Stockholm. The 35 participating countries consisted of:

16 NATO countries: USA, Belgium, Canada, Federal Republic of Germany, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Turkey. 7 Warsaw Pact countries: USSR, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, German Democratic Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania.

12 Nonaligned countries: Austria, Cyprus, Finland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Malta, Monaco, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Vatican City, Yugoslavia.

[The Conference on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures and Disarmament in Europe was the enlarged follow-up of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE). It had convened in Stockholm on January 17, 1984 and remained in perpetual session until its final accords of January 1, 1987.]
