Disaster Closely Missed
Only now, at a conference in Moscow, has it come to light how closely the world had missed disaster in the Cuban missile crisis in October of 1962. Soviet missiles with nuclear warheads were indeed deployed in Cuba and targeted on American cities. After Nikita Khrushchev had given in to President Kennedy’s ultimatum to dismantle and withdraw the missiles from Cuba, the crisis was overcome. But a human error or a miscalculation could have triggered the nuclear catastrophe.

The Big Housecleaning
In his first address to a joint session of Congress, President Bush presented a long list of tough measures, which should contribute to improving the domestic situation of the nation. The measures for the big housecleaning include the fight against drugs, the improvement of teaching in schools, cleaning up and protecting the environment, but above all reducing the budget deficit.
