1790 Feb. 18
Gamarra, Father Franc(isc)o to Father Ant(oni)o de Sedella, (auxiliary vicar), (New Orleans, Louisiana) He has received two letters from Sedella enumerating articles which have been sent to him, and the prices. He is thankful for this kindness as also for the unsuccessful attempt to collect the debt owed by (Antonio) Blanc. He assures Sedella that the non- payment of this debt has been the cause of great damage to the mission of Baia (Bahia del Espiritu Santo) since the Father minister has had to borrow money in order to feed and clothe the neophytes. He urges Sedella to continue his exertion in behalf of the debt and if still unsuccessful to appeal to the governor (Estevan) Miro. He asks to know what has become of the paper money of Jan. 1790 which he believes was the time when (______) Dapremot paid Sedella 700 pesos in order to make the account of that which Blanc has allowed in silver. He is very sorry that Sedella did not receive the cow tongues which he sent.
