1797 Jun. 26

(Penalver y Cardenas, Luis), Bishop of
New Orleans, Louisiana

(Penalver) is persuaded that the chaplains of the Artillery and Infantry regiments of Mexico and Louisiana have satisfied all the conditions under heading 23 of the second part of the army statutes about the Easter duty as well as what (Penalver) has reiterated in the time set from March 5, the first Sunday of Lent to yesterday, June 25. If there still remain those for whom these summons have been insufficient (ms. illegible here) as ordered by Chapter XIX of the instructions. Father Isidro Quintero also signs this as secretary and in notes following he states that he made known the above decree to Father Agustin Lamare, (O.F.M.), chaplain of the Permanent regiment of Infantry of Louisiana and on June 27 to Father Sebastian Gili, chaplain of the Infantry of Mexico.
