1798 (Jun. 28) Nicolas, (Juan Louis) Dispensation asked by Luis Santiago Nicolas from second degree consanguinity in order to marry Constanza Meilleur.

Nicolas, Juan Louis Nicolas, a native and resident of (New Orleans), appears before (Penalver) and states that he wishes to marry Constanza Meilleur. He asks (Penalver) to receive testimony on the following points: He is a native of the parish of St. Luis, son of Santiago Nicolas and Maria Tereza Meilleur. Constanza Meilleur, a native of the above parish, is the daughter of Miguel Meilleur and Mariana Savino. His mother, and Miguel Meilleur, his fiancee's father are the children of Miguel Meilleur and Margarita Picu. His fiancee is very poor and her grandmother, Maria Crocceler, widow of Arnoldo Saramiac has kept her from an early age. Her mother is very poor and has four children, abandoned by her husband 14 years ago. Her stepfather was a singer in the parish church for 38 years. It is well known that they are engaged to be married and that he calls frequently at her house. Nicolas asks (Penalver) for a dispensation and to order the pastor to marry them. Penalver y Cardenas, Bishop Having examined the testimony, Penalver grants the dispensation under the following conditions: that they make a general confession and for two months go to confession every two weeks, going to the High Mass on all Sundays and holy days and fasting every Friday during that time. Upon the fulfilling of these conditions word will be sent to the pastor of the Cathedral that he may marry them.
