Chapter 3 of the Royal Order of November 21, 1784 directs that when a chaplain wishes to absent himself from his corps, he must ask permission from the Viceroy or Captain through his deputy. (Penalver) sends the attached request of Father Jose Serrano, (O.P.), chaplain of the Third Battalion in Pensacola to prevent delay. He does not excuse nor condemn the grounds of the request and Santa Clara is to consider it with the knowledge that there is no other priest within three leagues.
