Barriere, Father Mi(che)l Bern(ar)d
to (Father Thomas Hassett In compliance with (Hassett's) of June 10, Barriere sends the inventory of his church which is the same as that made by Bishop (Luis Penalver y Cardenas) on his visit in October, 1796. As his trustee is ill, Barriere can give only an approximate account of the finances. There is on hand 96 p(esos) 6 1/2 reales, pew rent due 337 p(esos) 4 reales. Barriere asks (Hassett) to write a letter demanding that he urge the trustee to collect the sums due as he finds him honest but negligent in this matter. A.L.S. (French) Enclosure:

to (Father Thomas Hassett On the 24th Barriere received by way of the pastor of Iberville, the proclamation dated June 6, and (Hassett's) of June 10. In reply about his intentions in case the colony goes back to the French, Barriere very decidedly will turn toward the French and desires to enjoy all the bounty of the French Republic. He asks (Hassett) to inform the government of his sentiments. A.L.S. (French)

Barriere, Father Mig(ue)l Bern(ar)do Inventory of the Church of St. Martin; the furniture and effects, the sacred vessels, vestments, and linens are listed. Barriere certifies that the objects listed in the inventory of October 1796 made by the Bishop are all there and the rest are additions made since Penalver's visit.
