ARCHIVAL SOURCES

University of Notre Dame Archives (UNDA), Notre Dame, Indiana. This archive houses the collection of all of the official papers of the University of Notre Dame, as well as the private papers of those intimately connected with the history of the school. In addition, the archive is the repository for many collections of materials on American Catholic history, such as the papers of a number of American Catholic bishops and the records (microfilm) of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, which are indirectly related to the history of the college.

Provincial Archives of Holy Cross (PAHC), Provincial House for the Indiana Province of the Priests of Holy Cross, South Bend, Indiana. The official records of the Congregation of Holy Cross in connection with Notre Dame du Lac and the various foundations which were made from that place are to be found in this archive. These records, such as the minutes of the Minor Chapter for the Province, directly concern the actions of the Congregation at Notre Dame du Lac and only indirectly have bearing on the actual history of the college. However, the minutes of the various chapters, Brother Gatian's Journal, and especially the "Chronicles of Notre Dame du Lac" are of considerable importance to the history of all of the institutions founded at Notre Dame du Lac.
