1801 Apr. 27

(Penalver y Cardenas), Bishop Luis
New Orleans, Louisiana

to Bishop John Car(r)ol(l)
(Baltimore, Maryland)

Mr. Flechier has brought Carroll's letter of February 7 in which Carroll recommended to Penalver several parishes of the diocese next to Penalver's which lack pastors and could receive some help from Louisiana. The boundaries are Pointe Coupee, Baton Rouge, Mobile and Pensacola to whose pastors letters have been sent as of this date asking them to cooperate with Carroll's wishes and attend the faithful as much as their own obligations permit. In Upper Louisiana where Carroll has subjects not provided for, both sides of the Mississippi will be served and Penalver's vicar in the Illinois Country, Father (James Maxwell) Diego Maxivell residing in Ste. Genevieve is competent to discharge any commission placed in his care.
