Last Spring, György had an idea to organize, in collaboration with the American Piarist Provincialate, a private tour to Rome including an audience with His Holiness Pope John Paul II. This plan fell through partly because of the assassination attempt of the Pope but partly due to the fact that the private audience with the Pope could not be arranged. György would like to try the planned group travel again. He asks ALG for help to make it happen. Perhaps ALG, with the help of Father Hesburgh, could procure a Papal audience. Notre Dame's or ALG's participation in this endeavour would be fantastic. Hungarian

The Midwest Medieval Conference held its annual meeting in Toronto. ALG's inaugural, having to do with the Hungarian-French cultural relations before the crucial battle of Mohács, has been a great success. It was ALG who discovered the Parisian Professor's, Clichtove Jodokus', autographed anon manuscript that he has sent to Hungary. The conference concluded with a banquet at the Holiday Inn. Hungarian
- CALG 9/02.02 Letter : Őry to ALG 1981/0406
Őry informs ALG that they don't own the "Theologia" in their library. But he asked his librarian friends in Budapest, Hungary, to look for it in the public library there. Őry was able to look up its call number in the Hermann-bibliography. Now he encloses a copy. The article, however, ALG inquired about was not easy to find. It takes a lot of time to obtain an article without a call number. Őry is sorry to note that his colleague and a great benefactor of the Hungarian church, Marosi László, has passed away. Hungarian
- CALG 9/02.03 Document : Short Biographical Article about ALG
Written by Dr. Dercsényi Dezső in the "Élet es Irodalom", Budapest, Hungary, January 24, 1981. Several years ago, Dr. Dercsényi read an article about the Premontré College at Gödöllő, which stated that ALG has passed away. He refutes this claim by writing, in the same paper, that ALG has recently congratulated him for his article. His real name is Gábriel A. László, where A stands for Asztrik. ALG assumed the name Asztrik when he joined the Order of Canons of Premontré at Gödöllő. But he is famous all over the international academic world as Astrik. ALG was Director of the French College of the Order of Canons of Premontré during WWII. He helped French prisoners of war by giving them shelter, food, and teaching jobs as well. After WWII the school was closed down by the Communist authorities and ALG left Hungary. In the early sixties, Kerecsényi Dezsőné, from "Kultúra", called Dr. Dercsényi, informing him that she has a client from the United States, who buys all their best books. The client would like Dr. Dercsényi to dedicate the books he wrote, before sending it to America. Dr. Dercsényi agreed, but said that he doesn't speak English that well. When he found out that the American client was ALG, he was releived and dedicated his books in Hungarian to him. Hungarian
- CALG 9/02.04 Letter : Márton Hugó to ALG 1981/0408
Hugó thanks ALG for remembering his name-day and congratulating him on this occasion. In the midst of several movings, Hugó has lost the directory listing the assumed monastic names. These days most people, but not ALG, forget to celebrate religiuos name-days. Hugó congratulates ALG for his anniversary of professed Premontré Canon of Jászó that is coming up this year. He thinks that ALG intends to have a secluded, quiet celebration. Therefore, Hugó would like to send a telegraphic Papal blessing which is still is use these days. He asks ALG to name a "manu-ductor" for this purpose. Hugó spent his summer vacation at home in Transylvania, Romania. He learned from the papers of the conference and of the propaganda by the Romania communist regime. This propaganda uses distorted scientific results to proclaim the constant presence of the Romanian people in Transylvania -- the Daco-Roman Theory of Continuity. Hugó was also glad to hear that ALG presided this famous conference. ALG was perhaps the only participant, out of Western historians, who did not take the hook. Hungarian

He praises the bookseller "Könyvvilág". He also inquires about the knocked over statue of Prohászka Ottokár. No matter how interesting, but ALG was sorry to see the interview with Faludy György in the paper. Hungarian

- CALG 9/06.02 Letter : ALG to Dr. Székely György 1994/0427
ALG thanks György for intervening at the University on his behalf to receive his honorary doctorate degree. ALG sent a letter to the director of the University, Szabó Miklós, thanking him for the invitation to the presentation ceremony on May 13th. It is a coincidence that, exactly 60 years ago, in the same Aula Magna, ALG defended his Phd with Summa cum laude. ALG is sad to note that travelling in his age will be difficult and he will surely be jet-lagged for a couple of days in Budapest. Hungarian
- CALG 9/06.03 Letter : Dr. Székely György to ALG 1994/0412
György thanks ALG for the letters and the postcard from Paris. He sees now that ALG was not informed about the decision of the Lórád Eötvös University in Budapest to bestow the honorary doctorate upon him. He encloses 5 attachements for ALG's information. György hopes to see ALG soon in Budapest. Hungarian
- CALG 9/06.04 Letter : Dr. Székely György to Dr. Fodor Sándor 1992/1117
In the past, Sándor welcomed recommendations of potential honorary doctor candidates. Now György reminds Sándor that ALG has been nominated but to no avail. ALG's biography and bibliography has been recently published in America, which would quicken the process of his nomination. Hungarian
- CALG 9/06.05 Letter : Dr. Székely György to Dr. Vékás Lajos 1992/1117
Considering ALG's age, György suggests a convocation to bestow the honorary doctorate degree and professorship upon ALG, a decision that has already been made a while ago. ALG's biography contains only his scholarly work, but excludes achievements in his private life. György informs Lajos about ALG's heroic effort in helping French prisoners of war while he was in the Norbertinum and Budapest was under siege in WWII. Hungarian
- CALG 9/06.06 Letter : Dr. Fodor Sándor to Dr. Székely György 1992/1119

- CALG 9/06.07 Letter : ALG to Dr. Várkonyi Ágnes 1994/0425
ALG thanks Ágnes for her support and vote concerning ALG's honorary doctorate degree from his Alma Mater. ALG is happy to be noticed again by the Lórád Eötvös University in Budapest especially after the fact that the Universtiy degraded him, in 1960, to parochial-instructor. ALG was Stillman Professor at Harvard then. The Budapest University offered accommodation for ALG in May. ALG, however, will stay at the Forum Intercontinental Hotel. He would like to invite Ágnes and her husband to lunch upon his visit in May. Hungarian

- CALG 9/11 Folder : Magyar Velemeny egy Kozepkori Parisi Disputan 1943
- CALG 9/11.01 Document : Book on Medieval Norbertine Scholars by ALG 1943
Printed in Pécs, Hungary. It is a copy from the 1942-1943 almanac of the Order of Canons of Premontré of Jászóvár, found in the Norbertine Gymnazium at Gödöllő. ALG stresses that the St. Augustine Order, which originated in Italy, has had a major impact on the Hugarian-French cultural and intellectual relations in the Middle Ages. There were several Hungarian magisters belonging to this order who studied in Paris later, such as Magyarországi Sándor and János. ALG intends to reconstruct in detail parts of a dispute that was so prevalent in Medieval intellectual and literary circles. Magyarországi Sándor, just like Arnould de Toulouse, remained in Paris for several years to engage in appeals, sermons, disputes over power, writing down his idea, observations and disgreements. We have remains of his Paris work from the notes of his devouted students as well. Consequently, ALG argues, there is solid evidence that Hungarians in the XIIIth-XIVth century were integral in the inspiring European intellectual, literary, and political life. Hungarian

Copy of ALG's annotated study that appeared in the "Archivum Philologicum". ALG describes Hungarian magisters studying in Paris, and the one-time cultural millieu by carefully construing medieval original manuscripts and codified texts of the Vatican. During his research in the Vatican Library, ALG discovered a collection of manuscripts by a Hungarian cleric and scholar. Using the method of textual criticism, ALG points out the manuscript's age (1270-1290) and its Parisian origin. Hungarian

- CALG 9/13.01 Document : Book by ALG: Master Magyarorszagi Sandor is teaching at the Medieval Sorbonne University
By close readings of XIIIth century manuscripts and by offering his interpretations, ALG construes the history of the Augustine Canonical Order of 1250-1290, the life of its monks, as well as the relation of church and state that was marked by an augustine political trend, the l'augustinisme politique. The Sorbonne (University of Paris) was the place where all Augustine Magisters exchanged ideas, tought their pupils, and offered sermons. Hungarian
