However, after his invited talk at Hungary's millennial ceremony at Torontó, he has been accused, by fellow illiterate Hungarians, of giving false information and impression about the great King St. Stephen. His recent hobby is close translation of the German "Liederpoems" and he also calls ALG's attention to his new study "Veni Sancte". Hungarian

  ALG's former student, Tóni, is sorry for not replying sooner to ALG's postcards. He thanks ALG for the articles too. Tóni draws a parallel between ALG's straight handwriting, which is just like how it was back then teaching them, and ALG's frank character with its direct goals and his forthright scholarly work. ALG is the ideal, motif, and optimism for his pupils and for the people who are close beside ALG. István has been working hard due to the bishop's new orders to cut down on costs. Nevertheless he is now finishing and editing his great lithurgical work, the Oratio Fidelium appearing in three volumes. He thanks ALG for everything he has given him for so many years. Hungarian

  Prof. Eckhardt gave Dedi ALG's Torontó address. He is writing immediately and attaching his new publications as well. Prof. Eckhart also told him that ALG had been ill provided with books for his research. He will try to send him the Regnum, periodicals, such as the Kniezsa, as well as photographs he is interested in. To cut down the expenses, he suggests ALG to send to the Office of National Monuments, in exchange, medieval art magazines published in Torontó. Dedi sends information about ALG's old group of friends: the Deér family is arriving home from Paris, Alföldi will probably stay at the University of Bern, and Zakariás Genthon will leave for Rome next month. They still meet Tuesdays and Fridays, but not with such frequency as before. Together with the Vayers and the Bartóks, they established a new club, called Sailors' Club. Whenever the old friends get together and party they talk a lot about ALG and miss his entertaining stories very much. Since the introduction of the established price, everyday life for civil servants has been becoming more and more difficult, their salary providing them only with food and nothing else. Snubi is asking ALG to send, through emergency funds, some sort of help to her sister, Zsuska Karay, who is in Germany and is dependent on foreign help. Hungarian

  Dr. Alexander Baumgarten informed Dr. Toffler that ALG is going to help in Alexander's pending case, here America, which is closely related to his livelihood. The case is about freeing his assets that were blocked during World War II. Now that Alexander is not able to return to Hungary from France he needs his money for his subsistence. Arthur attaches an affidavit that ALG needs to sign and testify in front of a notary public.   Ranschburg bookseller contacted him about the two manuscripts: the History of Saint Benedictine and the Gombos Albin Fontes. As ALG requested, he delivered the books to Mr. Ranschburg and now he is able to take out the custom permits and send them to the Notre Dame Library. If this transaction had been arranged through them, that is through the Academy, that would not have been a problem either since the materials were to be considered an exchange. In turn, ALG sends valuable books to the Hungarian Academy that they are in need of. Also he informs ALG that there is some sort of a new embargo on unsolicited gift parcels and that this decree was due to the fact that people started to abuse the packages. Hungarian

  She asks ALG, then director of the French School, to help her husband and her get the emigrant visa to leave the Guatemalan American Center and go to the USA. Lenke asks ALG if he would ask his friends in high circles, such as Queen Zita, to help in this entaglement. Lenke's son, Adam, studies in Cleveland, and her brother-in-law is there as a medical doctor too. So they have a place where to go but they don't have the visa. Just as a reminder, Lenke's cousin, Hermann Büeler de Florin, wrote an extensive biography of King Károly, Zita's husband, two years ago. Hungarian

  She asks ALG to help her husband, ALG's former student from Gödöllő, and her to obtain the entry visa either into USA or into Canada. Now, they are living in an Austrian refugee camp and for the International Refugee Organization takes years to find work for them in America, if at all. This is why she appeals to ALG and his acquaintances in high circles. They have already registered with the N.C.W.C., which helps refugees to emigrate to the US, but there are too many appeals and just a few quotas. Hungarian

  Kázmér reminds ALG of the time they met last time: ALG was a young priest while he was a young architect. Since then he had to leave Hungary and now lives in a refugee camp in Austria. Because he can't find any job, not even manual labour, their living standard in below minimum and their health is slowly deterioriating. He traced down ALG's address somehow and now appeals to him to help them leave Austria and emigrate to the United States through some kind of religious organization. Only healthy and/or uninjured people are qualified to emigrate, but Kázmér will obtain a certificate that proofs their fitness to be manual workers. He also informs ALG about their common friend from school, Milákovits, dying in a labour camp where he was serving his imprisonment for life. Hungarian

  ALG did not write sooner because he has been very busy with work. In between his lecture in Chicago and his trip to Canada he was swamped with things to do. ALG encloses a list of his recent publications. He also advises Vilmos to publish an English language newspaper instead a Hungarian one since nobody reads Hungarian publications anymore. Here, in the States, he is overwhelmed with a Hungarian press, which is a work of mercy. ALG asks Vilmos to send some more copies of his article, which has recently been published in the Hungarian Katolikus Szemle. And his next letter, in the absence of accent marks on his typewriter, will be in English. Hungarian

  She is glad to let ALG know about Christ Heart Lady's of the People, an association that has been well known in Hungary. Now, four sisters, including Manhertz S.J.C., arrived to Canada to help spread their mission. The I.R.O., however, denied the entry visa for the Sister who is at the head of the organization. The refusal was due to health reasons. She would appreciate it if ALG would send them as little money as he can afford to alleviate their travel expenses. Hungarian

  Róza thanks ALG for his letter, the inquiry after her life, and his kindness to help her out in exile. In the fullest detail Róza tells ALG the story of her life between the two World Wars and during the ensuing dismal conditions of 1945. As a result, in 1948 she was fleeing the horrible conditions in the country. Now she works in England but would like to find a better job in America to be able to support her old mother and her daughter as well. She asks ALG to help on her behalf.   István proposes to esteblish a compilation called " King Szt. István's American Heritage" put together of Hungarian historical and/or family artifacts that were brought to the United States. Hungarian nuns and monks are the best fit to organize such a compilation and eventually to transport it back to Hungary after the liberation from the Soviets. Should ALG be interested in the project, he is to call István this weekend to further discuss it. The reason he turns to ALG with his request is that ALG is the only person he knows who by circumventing party-politics fights for the Hungarian casue using the weapon of the mind. Hungarian

  So far they have not been able to pay back ALG their indebtedness, but Ilona intends to now that her husband started working 60 hours a week. Ilona and her husband arrived to South Bend a year ago and on this occasion they thank ALG all his help on their behalf.   He is happy to know that the family is satisfied with their new conditions in South Bend. He has helped them along their way as much as he could and he did that for his conscience sake. He always had a clean conscience and therefore he never worried too much about other people's opinions. But it is a sure way to make enemies and is in fact every lonesome person's both priviledge and curse. ALG never thought of getting anything back from Ilu and her family, more particularly since it was Raszlaviczy who arranged their plain tickets. He sends his warm regards to the family. Hungarian

  They are glad to hear the good news that ALG will be visiting them for christmas at their house. They have very important, but also personal, information to share with him then.   Mária is happy that Ottó is getting better in the hospital. She thanks ALG for the letters and for the packages but she asks for more cigarettes for Ottó. Mária sold the tea and the coffee in order to buy bacon and cigarettes with the money. Also she is trying to find somebody to look after the graves of ALG's parents. Hungarian

  He thanks ALG for his letter and his kind words congratulating him on his recent article. He informs ALG about the articles on him in various emigrant newspapers that are widely read among Hungarians. He sends his congratulations to ALG for his successes. More importantly, he congratulates ALG on his essay about Saint Margit, which he will read on his Christmas break. He agrees with ALG that the exuberant Hungarian Middle Ages nicely corroborate Western civilization and therefore needs to be studied thoroughly. But Americans have a scrappy education in the real values of the Middle Ages and manyconsider József and ALG old-fashioned. Hungarian
