  Approximately 150 pages of typed lecture notes, almost entirely in German, on the topic of Marxism, Leninism, and Imperialism.
• CGNM 7/17 Folder : National Defense Academy - Japan 1980
  Dozens of pages of chronologically ordered, typed lecture notes spanning the history of political philosophy from Plato to Comte. These lectures were evidently given at the National Defense Academy in Japan in 1980, with correspondence relating to Niemeyer's appointment there also included.

  Dozens of pages of handwritten notes, as well as typed lecture notes, relating to a number of courses taught by Niemeyer on the general topic of the concept of "History." Included are syllabi (as well as some exam questions) for three courses: "Reading Course on the Concept of History" (1967), "History in Political Thought" (1980), and "The Concept of History in Political Theory" (1992). Authors included in the syllabi and covered in the notes include Polybius, St. Augustine, Bodin, Vico, Kant, Hegel, Toynbee, Spengler, and Voegelin.

  Approximately 200 pages of notes, handwritten and typed, on the concept of "nature" in the history of philosophy. These notes relate to a course entitled "The Concept of Nature" which Niemeyer taught from the 1970s to the early 90s. Numerous syllabi and final examinations for this course are also included.

  Approximately 200 pages of notes, handwritten and typed, on Niemeyer's course "Order and History," taught in the late 1980s and early 90s, as well as syllabi and examination questions. The course, and correspondingly much of the notes, is concerned with understanding Voegelin's thought.

  Approximately 200 pages of handwritten and typed notes, organized by philosopher, on the history of political philosophy in support of Niemeyer's introductory Political Theory course. Also included are syllabi for the course and a detailed plan of lectures. The philosophers covered in the notes include Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Burke, and Mill.

  Approximately 30 pages of handwritten notes relating to a Political Science course taught by Niemeyer in the summer of 1959. The notes primarily contain analyses of various forms of government. A copy of the final examination questions for the course is also included.

  Syllabus and approximately 30 pages of handwritten and typed notes relating to Niemeyer's Spring 1968 course on Political Theory. The notes cover sections of Aristotle's Ethics and Politics , St. Augustine's City of God , and Plato's Apology and Phaedo.

  Syllabi, grade reports, examination questions, and typed lectures for Niemeyer's early 90's course "Regained Elements of Order." Also included are a number of essays/articles by Niemeyer, including "Enlightenment to Ideology" (28 pages; possibly unpublished, not on bibliography), "Myth and Order in Our Time" (in Papers on Educational Reform ), "Loss of Reality: Gnosticism and Modern Nihilism" (Modern Age ), "What Price 'Natural Law'?" (AJJ), and "Ethics and Politics in Communism" (Imprimis ).

  Syllabi, examination questions, approximately 30 pages of handwritten notes, and 3 essays (by others) relating to two courses taught in the 80's by Niemeyer: "Western Writers on Totalitarianism" and "Russian Writers and Socialism." The essays included are "The Reluctant God: The Dostoyevskian Psyche and the Total Critique" by M. D. Henry, "Political Anthropology and Some Aspects of the Problem of Good and Evil in Dostoevsky's 'Legend of the Grand Inquisitor'" by Ellis Sandoz, and "The Terrible Question of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn" by Norman Podhoretz.

  Materials relating to a course Niemeyer taught in the summer of 1991 entitled "Understanding Our Time." Included are a photo of the participants in the summer program, typed lecture notes for the course, and approximately 30 pages of handwritten notes pertaining to the course.
• CGNM 7/28 Folder : Vanderbilt Lectures
  Extensive (more than 100 pages) handwritten and typed notes relating primarily to Communist ideology, Marxism, and Leninism. The typed lecture notes included among these were written for Niemeyer's lectures at the Institute on Communism and Constitutional Democracy at Vanderbilt University in 1966. Also included is a 32-page essay (unpublished under this title) by Niemeyer simply entitled "Marxism," which offers a characteristically penetrating analysis of Marx's philosophy.

• CGNM 8/01 Folder : GN Speeches 1956-1959
  Full texts and notes, both typed and handwritten, for speeches/lectures given by Niemeyer in the mid-to-late 1950s. The locations of these speeches include Milwaukee, Washington D.C., and Bloomington (IN). The speeches and lectures primarily concern U.S.-Soviet relations and the task of combating Communism both from a theoretical and practical standpoint. Also included is some correspondence between Niemeyer and Buckley concerning the National Review .
• CGNM 8/02 Folder : GN Speeches 1954-1958
  Several laminated graphs and charts containing statistics related to world industrial production and the distribution of various natural resources, as well as a paper (23 pages) presented by Niemeyer to the National War College entitled "An Evaluation of Alliances and Coalitions in which the United States is a Member" (Sept. 1958) and a "Working Paper" by Niemeyer (54 pages) reporting impressions received during a visit to France and Germany in 1954.

  A 113-page draft text, with approximately 20 pages of accompanying handwritten notes, of a 1980/81 work by Voegelin entitled "The Beginning of the Beginning."
• CGNM 8/10 Folder : Beyond Institutions of Power and Patterns of Profit 1991
  An 8-page summary of Niemeyer's early 90s work entitled "Beyond Institutions of Power and Patterns of Profit" (publication status unknown) which assesses the ongoing intellectual crisis of the West despite the decline of Communism and Fascism. Also included are a few conference programs from the mid-80s to the early 90s in Germany.

  A 27-page rough draft of a paper (unpublished) by Niemeyer entitled "The Church and the Ideological Temptation," which treats of the history of the Church and its role in world history.
• CGNM 8/12 Folder : Church and Politics 1964-1965
  A 9-page (unpublished) essay by Niemeyer entitled "Political Issues and Moral Judgments" (1965), directed towards Christian clergy and intended for but denied publication in the American Church Quarterly and the Ecclesiastical Review for being too far to the political right. Included are correspondence relating to this essay, two issues of the Vestrymen's Newsletter (1965), one issue of The Christian Challenge (April 1965), and the St. Marks Vestry Committee report on The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America (1961).

  Two drafts of Niemeyer's paper entitled "A 'Church' Without a Name?" (Center Journal Vol. 1, Number 3 [Summer, 1982]: 107-119) which treats of church-state relations and is addressed to members of the Christian Church.
• CGNM 8/14 Folder : Communism and the Notion of the Good
  A nearly final draft of a paper by Niemeyer (unpublished under this title) entitled "Communism and the Notion of the Good" (15 pages). This paper analyzes the question of whether Marxism-Leninism may be said to have a "morality" guided by some notion of the "good." The analysis is intriguing and persuasive.

  A 16-page draft of a paper by Niemeyer (unpublished under this title) entitled "E Nobilissima Visione Regna Inferna," which treats largely of Russian literature and Communism. Also included are a draft of Niemeyer's article "The Loss and Recovery of History" (Imprimis 1977), and a 14-page paper by Frederick D. Wilhelmsen (Professor of philosophy and politics, University of Dallas) entitled "Faith and Reason."

  A 21-page draft of a paper by Niemeyer entitled "Forces That Shape the Twentieth Century." The paper appears to be unpublished, and is prefaced by a caveat that it does not "represent scholarly research" but is rather intended as "topical stimulation for a conversation among informed and intelligent people."

  A 19-page draft of Niemeyer's article "Foreign Policy and America's Sense of Destiny" (Center Journal , 1983).

  A reprint of Niemeyer's article entitled "Foreign Policy and Morality: A Contemporary Perspective" (The Intercollegiate Review , Spring, 1980).

  Two typed drafts of the article reprinted in 8/18.
• CGNM 8/20 Folder : The Forgotten Holocaust 1987
  Two copies of the September, 1987 issue of New Heaven, New Earth which contains a review article by Niemeyer entitled "The Forgotten Holocaust." The book under review is Robert Conquest's The Harvest of Sorrow, Soviet Collectivization and the Terror-Famine (Oxford University Press, 1986). Also included are an article by Constantine Menges entitled "The Diplomacy of Defeat" (Policy Review , Fall 1988) and a 1987 issue of the Center for Christian Studies Newsletter which contains the text of Niemeyer's commencement address to the students of Trinity School at Greenlawn on June 8, 1986.
• CGNM 8/21 Folder : Fourier, etc.
  A 16-page draft of a paper by Niemeyer simply entitled "Fourier," on the thought of Charles Fourier (1772-1837). Niemeyer opens the paper by asserting that "Fourier seems to have been the first to claim for the succession of phases or ages of history the status of a positive science." The paper is absent from the bibliography and apparently unpublished.
• CGNM 8/22 Folder : Future of Thomism 1990s
  A preface, introduction, and 2 chapters of a work by Niemeyer which grew out of a meeting of the American Maritain Association whose theme was "The Future of Thomism." This work, which appears unfinished (and unpublished), comprises 90 pages which treat of St. Thomas's thought, as well as that of Gilson and Maritain on the relationship of the human intellect to objective reality.

  A 16-page paper by Niemeyer (unpublished) entitled "The Hospice Movement and the Problem of Death" (1980s).
• CGNM 8/24 Folder : Millennarianism and Revolution 1988
  Three copies of a 15-page essay by Niemeyer entitled "Millenarianism and Revolution," intended for publication in Imagination and Order: Essays in Honor of Russell Kirk (1990). Also included are nearly 20 pages of handwritten notes on the topic of the essay, as well as correspondence between Niemeyer and the editor of Imagination and Order , Robert Kamphuis.
• CGNM 8/25 Folder : Nazi Propaganda
  A 51-page report by Niemeyer containing analyses of Hitler's theory of propaganda and concrete characteristics of Nazi propaganda. Also included are two copies of a transcript of the March 20, 1955 broadcast of the "Yale Interprets the News" radio program entitled "Coexistence Confusing to Western Alliance," in which Niemeyer participated.

  A 30-page draft of an article by Niemeyer entitled "On Authority and Alienation: A Meditation." Also included are a letter from Donald Kommers to Niemeyer expressing his intent to publish the article in the Summer 1991 issue of the Review of Politics , and three anonymous reviews of the article.

  A 19-page, heavily corrected, draft of an essay by Niemeyer entitled "Peaceful Co-existence" (unpublished under this title), assessing Khrushchev's policy of peaceful coexistence in comparison with Stalin's policies.

  A series of typed lectures evidently prepared for a conference entitled "What You Need to Know about Western Civilization" (Aug. 19-25, 1990), to which Niemeyer contributed 4 lectures. The texts of the 4 lectures (about 10 pages each) are entitled "Ideology: The Hallmark of Modernity," "History and Consciousness," "What We Should Know About Western Civilization," and "Consciousness and Being."

  A 20-page draft of a paper (absent from bibliography and undated) by Niemeyer entitled "Will the Soviet Reality Please Stand Up?," which consists in a review of "some of the mistakes endemic to Western thinking about the Soviets" (p. 1).
