Extensive (more than 100 pages) handwritten and typed notes relating primarily to Communist ideology, Marxism, and Leninism. The typed lecture notes included among these were written for Niemeyer's lectures at the Institute on Communism and Constitutional Democracy at Vanderbilt University in 1966. Also included is a 32-page essay (unpublished under this title) by Niemeyer simply entitled "Marxism," which offers a characteristically penetrating analysis of Marx's philosophy.

The speeches and lectures primarily concern U.S.-Soviet relations and the task of combating Communism both from a theoretical and practical standpoint. Also included is some correspondence between Niemeyer and Buckley concerning the National Review .

Included are correspondence relating to this essay, two issues of the Vestrymen's Newsletter (1965), one issue of The Christian Challenge (April 1965), and the St. Marks Vestry Committee report on The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America (1961).

This paper analyzes the question of whether Marxism-Leninism may be said to have a "morality" guided by some notion of the "good." The analysis is intriguing and persuasive.

Wilhelmsen (Professor of philosophy and politics, University of Dallas) entitled "Faith and Reason."

The book under review is Robert Conquest's The Harvest of Sorrow, Soviet Collectivization and the Terror-Famine (Oxford University Press, 1986). Also included are an article by Constantine Menges entitled "The Diplomacy of Defeat" (Policy Review , Fall 1988) and a 1987 issue of the Center for Christian Studies Newsletter which contains the text of Niemeyer's commencement address to the students of Trinity School at Greenlawn on June 8, 1986.

A 16-page draft of a paper by Niemeyer simply entitled "Fourier," on the thought of Charles Fourier (1772-1837). Niemeyer opens the paper by asserting that "Fourier seems to have been the first to claim for the succession of phases or ages of history the status of a positive science." The paper is absent from the bibliography and apparently unpublished.

A preface, introduction, and 2 chapters of a work by Niemeyer which grew out of a meeting of the American Maritain Association whose theme was "The Future of Thomism." This work, which appears unfinished (and unpublished), comprises 90 pages which treat of St. Thomas's thought, as well as that of Gilson and Maritain on the relationship of the human intellect to objective reality.
