"Pacifism and Abortion" ~ Letter from Gordon to Cathy Stentzel, assistant to the editor of SOJOURNERS, with an attached article. ~ 8/18--Cathy writes Gordon with the guidelines for his article. 9/2--Gordon encloses his promised article and says that he has decided to suscribe to the magazine. In his article Gordon discusses the pacifist position on abortion. He talks of the fetus as a human life, how pacifists are most sensitive to the most vulnerable of society, and the total dependence of the unborn. He says it is tragic that the abortion issue has become confused with the struggle for women's liberation. 9/29 Cathy confirms that they received tha article and thanks Gordon for his contribution.

Mary Roth ~ Counselor at Draft, GI and Vets Counseling Center ~ Letter to Gordon From Mary with a "Counselors Newsletter" and an article from The New York Times attached. Gordon writes a reply letter to Mary. ~ Mary writes to Gordon to discuss at length the CO status issues by the Selective Service. She claims that some of Gordon's points only confuse the issue, rather than clarifying it, and that the educated can easily obtain CO status, but the undereducated do not even know about it. She includes a statement of "SSS Official's Attitude Toward COs" and an article entitled "Carter Urged to Define Penalties for Avoiding Draft" from The New York Times. Olcutt Sanders, FOR ~ Olcutt sends out a general letter asking for financial support. Gordon responds to Olcutt. ~ Olcutt writes that the FOR National Council has called for an outreach program to expand its membership base. It requires an initial $50,000 before returns offset expenses, and an appeal for ten lenders of $5000 is made, saying they will be paid back in a year and a half. A personal note to Gordon asks if he will join a group of five in lending $1000 each. Gordon says he is willing to make the loan, however he thinks that each lender should be guaranteed to be paid back in full, even if it exceeds the 18-month time period. ~ 6/27, 6/26

She also writes a letter to the editor. She discusses at length males' responsibility for the current state of the world, and aggressively attacks Gordon and his position on abortion. The editor responds defending Gordon, and Gordon also responds with his version of the issues. " 9/14--brief reminder note from Murray. 9/30--Gordon sends a letter along with his essay and includes brochures for two of his books and a copy of an article of his published in AMERICA. In his article Gordon cites some changes that have taken place over the centuries in the church's position saying that the current position is that no modern war could meet the requirements for just war.

Reverend John Lemnitzer,Prince of Peace Lutheran Church ~ Correspondence back and forth between Gordon and John about the Easter trespassing charge. Gordon also wrote a letter to the judge presiding over the case and an article in included that appeared in Missoula's paper about Gordon's role in the case. ~ Gordon and John discuss for a few months starting in September of 1980 to January of 1981 whether or not Gordon could make an appearance and show the film THE REFUSAL at a support meeting before the trial on Feb. 3rd. After Gordon's visit, thank-you letters are sent. Gordon's letter to the judge asks for lenience and empathy in making the decision. The article in the paper (2/2) says that Gordon spoke to a gathering of 60 about each individual's moral responsibility to oppose war and violence and also showed the film THE REFUSAL. ~ from 9/13/80 to 2/6/81

Also, that the willingness of Catholic theologians and other church spokesmen to accept Catholic pacifism as an option on a par with "just war" traditions.
