John MacCormack ~ Director of Institute of Human Values ~ Letters to John from Gordon, a general newsletter from John to Gordon with an attached copy of a summary of the presentations given at a conference in 1977, and information about another conference. ~ Gordon writes (4/22) to John asking him for another copy of the newsletter he sent out with the enclosed presentation because he had lost it. The newsletter (January) told about The Social Sciences and Humanities Reserch Council of Canada entitled: "The Human Context for Science and Technology" where John gave a presentation about the necessity of developing a hermeneutic for assessing the quality of life while exploring the human context. John's summary of the presentations given at the conference entilted, "Beyond Relativism" by the Institute of Human Values in 1977 is attached per Gordon's request. Gordon writes (5/2) to tell John about his travel arrangements for the Conference in Heliofax. (5/18) A schedule and information about the conference in Heliofax is sent to the participants (Gordon is to give a presentation). Gordon writes (6/1) after the conference to apologize for having to leave early due to medical conditions and that they turned out to be not too serious. ~ see above

He raises objections to peacetime conscription and says that military training is an occasion of sin. Gordon contends that the church needs to become more active in educating about and promoting the cause of non-violence.

He refers to the criminal penalty for trespass committed by an anti-war pamphleteer and says that no distinction is make between this person and one who trespasses to commit burglary. He says that with the danger of nuclear war approaching, it cannot be afforded that those who are doing active protest be conveniently locked away. Gordon contends that the stifling of their message is undemocratic.
