Finally, mentions that both him and Mary Lou enjoyed the Seattle Assembly.

  Says there has been nothing further on the London Times item. However, says that a more recent development is the dissertation by Robert Sarno and his statement that Franz Jaegerstaetter's cause for canonization might have to be delayed or side-tracked because of "broader consequences". Troubled by the thought that Sarno's thinking reflects the thinking in the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. In addition, mentions that while he is in Austria he plans to see Bishop Aichern and Cardinal Koenig.

Apologizes for going on and says that he is not part of any organized effort to "promote his cause"; however he would not want this movement to be jeopardized by the criticisms he knows Bishop Aichern has encountered since taking up the case.

  Excited about his interest in the "young people's version" of the Jaegerstaetter story project. Says he and Michael Hovey have not yet progressed past a first draft. At least five attempts have been made to translate the story to dramatic form including one on the London stage and another an American TV version of the Franz Jaegerstaetter story. Says that his prime interest at the moment is whether the new edition of GERMAN CATHOLIC'S AND HITLER'S WARS will stir the same controversial reaction that it did back in 1964.

His first encounter with the term was in the 1981 policy statement issued by Pax Christi that was drafted by Eileen Egan who deserves credit for the term.

  Regrets not being able to attend his Thursday lecture. However, is writing because of his identification with the Gregorian. Gives a background of his research on Franz Jaegerstaetter and says that in light of his research he was greatly distressed by a recent Gregorian dissertation which identified Franz Jaegerstaetter as an example of the type of cause of canonization that might have to delayed in order to preserve ecclesiastical prudence. Says that Msgr. Sarno's assertion that Franz Jaegerstaetter was a "total pacficist" is completely wrong. Asks him as a member of the Gregorian faculty if he knows of any corrective procedures concerning how to handle this?

In addition, says that regarding Bishop Pena's inquiry their position is: that as long as there are Catholics in the military there will be a need for priests to minister to them, but the still feel as though the chaplaincy should be "de-militarized".
