Aldo Moro

Not only in Italy, all across Europe people are still in shock under the impression of the brutal kidnapping of Aldo Moro, the chairman of the Demo-Christiana (DC). Last Thursday, March 16, about 9 in the morning, the Red Brigades assaulted the car of Aldo Moro in broad daylight in the center of Rome. With hardly imaginable brutality and brazenness the escorts were shot down and Moro abducted. Moro was on his way to the Parliament where the newly formed government should have received a vote of confidence. Never before have the leading party and the opposition been so quickly of one mind. Alarmed by this criminal act, not only the center right parties closed ranks, but also the Left distanced itself from this crime and is now more willing to cooperate with the democratic center.
