(1) Fermin Landry from the parish of Asencion of Acadia, France, notifies the Bishop that he desires to marry Anna Leblanc from the parish of Belle Isle en Mer of France, but that he could not do so because of the diriment impediment of consanguinity that exists between them. He asks the Bishop information about the following matters: (2) Landry set forth this relationship as follows: (a) Firstly that Fermin Landry of the parish of Asencion of Acadia is the legitimate son of Renato Landry and Maria Ferio. (b) Anna Leblanc, his intended wife, of the parish of Belle Isle in Mer, France, is the legitimate daughter of Simon Leblanc and Maria Frahaur. (c) Renato Landry, his father, is the legitimate son of Abraham Landry and Maria Guilbo. (d) Simon Leblanc, father of his intended bride, is the legitimate son of Santiago Leblanc and Margarida Landry. (e) Abraham Landry, his grandfather on the side of his father, and Margaride Landry, grandmother of his intended wife, on the side of her father, are the legitimate children of Juan Landry and Isabel Eber, from which results the impediment of consanguinity in the third degree. equal. (f) In the Post of La Fourche almost all the Acadian families are relatives so that it is difficult to marry strangers. Landry specifies too that his intended and he are poor and if their marriage does not take place she would be exposed to other trials. (3) Since these facts are considered sufficient, Fermin Landry begs the Bishop to grant them this dispensation and that the pastor of the above mentioned parish may marry them in the usual form.
--To this document is added the decree of the Bishop Luis Penalver y Cardenas that the information presented by Fermin Landry be received and as many witnesses as the present Secretary may need should appear. Signed by the Bishop.
--To this is added a certification by Joseph Maria Rivas, Secretary, that the Bishop ordered the decree and signed it on Aug. 10, 1795.
--To this is added another certification by the Secretary Joseph Maria Rivas in which he says that on the same day he notified Fermin Landry of the above decree.
--The document is signed on Aug. 10, 1755, by the Secretary Joseph Maria Rivas at the request of Fermin Landry who could not write. (This note is added at the top of the first page of the document.

Certifies: (1) That in virtue of the commission granted him by the decree of Bishop Penalver y Cardenas, Fermin Landry appeared before him, and, under oath, answered the questions asked by Rivas as follows: (2) That his name is Fermin Landry native of the parish of Asencion of Acadia and that he is the legitimate son of Renato Landry and Marid Feris; aged 37 years, unmarried and engaged to Anna Leblanc from the parish of Belle Isle in Mer of France; that both are neighbours in la Fourche. Moreover Landry said that he knows of no other impediment. Finally, Landry swears that all he said is the truth, and he did not sign because he could not write. Rivas certifies that in virtue of his commission he received the following information, under oath, from Carlos Goden from New Orleans, a witness presented by Fermin Landry. (a) That Goden knows that Fermin Landry is the legitimate son of Renato Landry and Maria Ferio. (b) That he knows also that Anna Leblanc is the legitimate daughter of Luison Leblanc and Maris Fraham. (c) That he knows that Renato Landry is the legitimate son of Abraham Landry and Maria Guilbo. (d) That Luison Leblanc is the son of Santiago Leblanc and Maria Landry. (e) That since Abraham and Maria Landry's grandparents on the side of their parents are the legitimate children of Juan Landry and Isabel Eber. They are bound by the relationship of consanguinity in the third degree, equal. Finally, he swears to the truth of his statements and that his age is 48 years. He did not sign because he could not write. This is notarized by Joseph Maria Rivas, Secretary.

Rivas certifies also that immediately Fermin Landry introduced another witness, Joseph Landry from New Orleans from whom Rivas received sworn testimony to the truth of the same points witnessed by Carlos Goden. He swore also that he was 35 years old, and signed the document Joseph Landry. This is notarized by Joseph Maria Rivas, Secretary.

The Bishop decrees: (1) That having examined these documents concerning Fermin Landry's petition for a dispensation to marry Anna Leblanc, he dispenses them from the impediment of consanguinity and considers as legitimate any children they may have. (2) Moreover he ordains that the parties must cease living under the same roof for the present so that they may restore with their example all they have destroyed by their scandal. (3) Moreover in order to absolve them from their fault, the Bishop ordains that during the publication of the banns, they must daily pray on their knees the three parts of the rosary and contribute twenty pesos of alms to their parish. (4) Furthermore, to this end, the Bishop ordains that the decree be sent to the pastor Bernardo de Deba of La Fourche. So that the latter may dispense them from the publication of the banns. Signed by the Bishop and witnessed by Joseph Maria Rivas, Secretary.
--To this document is added a note by Joseph Maria Rivas certifying that at New Orleans on another day he notified Fermin Landry of the above decree.
--Finally another note is added by Rivas that the decree of the Bishop was sent to the pastor Bernardo de Deba from la Fourche.
