Serrano, (O.P.), Father Jose
New Orleans, (Louisiana)

to (Father thomas Hassett
New Orleans, Louisiana)

Serrano, chaplain of the 3rd Battalion of the Louisiana Infantry, has obtained from His Holiness, the Papal Bull permitting him to secularize and to dress in the habit of St. Peter. This bull was presented by Serrano's attorney in the Bishops' Curia in Havana in 1798 and because of the war it has been impossible for Serrano to present himself. Without this requirement nothing could be done and he has been losing the revenues of a chaplaincy in that city. He asks (Hassett) to give him four months' leave to go to Havana to settle this and to leave Father Santiago Colman of Pensacola in charge during his absence.
